Artly There Glossary Page
(Or, another excuse for a link.)
- Acid-free : Free of a lifetime of drug addiction.
- Actually, this refers to the acid content of a surface. Items
that are painted on acid free surfaces will last the longest. Items
painted on other surfaces may last a long time, or they may not.
When framing any painting item, always try to use an acid free matting.
This includes framing an item that is not acid-free. This will aid in the
life extension of the painting. In the least it will prevent discoloration.
-
- Acrylic : Polymer based paint. Painting with plastic.
- Can be made to resemble oils, and work like them also.
Acrylics tend to have excellent lightfastness.
- can-do : That means... "Can I do it?"
-
Either technically, or timewise, or both.
What will influence a can-do decision:
Am I being asked to do a copyright violation?
Am I being asked to do something out of my league?
Am I being asked to do something too cheaply?
Am I being asked to do something too quickly?
You never know until you ask. :)
- Ebay : Place of open market madness.
-
Place where sales of commonly priced items are inflated by auction fever.
Place where people market seemingly rare items only for you to find them on
their website later, and usually cheaper.
- Lightfastness : Resistance to color fading.
-
- Oils : Resistance is futile, OPEC will always win.
-
Oils are the time honored medium of the masters. Great for blending,
a long wait for drying. Paint thick over thin to avoid cracking when drying.
