Artly There
Q: What is the difference between v2.1.0 and v2.10?

A: A LOT (a few years, too) :)

Q: How do I...

A: Practice.

Q: Really..

A: Read the manuals, or the online help.

Q: And if that is not enough?

A: Feel free to write me. Or read this FAQ, it is subject to a lot of expansion now that the site is in Template City.

Q: How do I enter my registration code?

A: Copy the 2 lines in the email to the clipboard, and just run the program again. It will (should) auto-register you. Otherwise use the 2 plain lines included and enter them manually via the splash prompt, or the Help menu's option.

Q: How do I change the image resolution?

A: Currently, use the Image Size dialog, and set things to 100 percent, both H and W and then change the resolution field, Apply. You'll need to save the image for it to 'take', unless printing within the program, and needing it as a temporary change.

Q: How do I resize an image?

A: As of v2.10, one way is to use the Fast Scale option under the Image Menu. Otherwise, open the Image Size dialog, and enter the size desired in percent or pixels or other, and select Quicktime (for fastest results)...Sinc may give a sharper result. You can choose None if scaling down a lot.

Q: The image size field matching changes slow or fails to sometimes..

A: Type the bottom one first, the top will match sooner than vice versa.

Q: How can I filter a floating selection? Why can't I do that yet?

A: Floating selections exist in their own universe right now , thus the handicap for some operations when they exist. You can flip them and rotate them, that's about it, move them around...,make shadows, etc. So the easiest way for now is File menu : New Using Current, filter it, then copy it and paste it back in when done.

Q: I closed an image that I did not mean to! What to do?

A: First thing you do next is go to the File Menu : Restore Closed, and just open All. This will give you the last History snapshot taken...but you'll need to give it a name and save it manually (Save As...works great) :)

Q: I get weird error messages at times.

A: Still working on those bugs...usually is non-harmful... a port fails to update, or by that time, it's does not even matter, and a residual check function received the error. Hopefully lessened as of v2.10

Q: I lost my code!

A: Email artlythere at kagi dot com, via the program Help menu, we'll restore it or just look it up.

Q: Sometimes when I undo something, there's a weird refresh or something....

A: Still working on those bugs... ;) Just resize the window, should clear it up. Otherwise, select the Rect tool, and move any selection (this is usually a problem...after a floating drop operation).

Q: How do I select non-contiguous parts of the image?

A: Selection menu! Select Image (v2.10) also, you can use the Wand tool...but the tolerances work differently then. Hold down the Option key on the keyboard, and the wand switches to Non-contiguous mode...and will select anything on the image that matches. Again, this has a different non-Apple algorithm, so the tolerance needs to be a little higher.

Q: How do I change the tolerance?

A: Double click the Wand tool, and set it to 32 in general. Set Anti-Alias to true. You can double click a lot of the tools on the Tool palette and you'll be wanting to get the best use out of the program.

Q: How do I access other tools?

A: If you see a little darkened corner on the Tool icon, it means there are more that can pop-up. Press and hold, then move to select the other tools. Some like the Paintbrush's Media and Motion options have massive options to be set if you double click the newly uncovered icons.

Q: I have many questions which are not answered here.

A: Email me! I'll stick them on here if they are of a general nature. Thanks for your interest.

Q: Wait, when are layers going to be in this thing?

A: Email me! Thanks for your interest! Just kidding. Layers exist in a fashion, just not the usual way. The usual way is under development. Compositor's engine way back was not envisioned to be where it ended up, thus the lack for now. You can use Snapshots and the history and fading to get a lot of the usual effects though, and also using smart selections.
